Top 5 models of professional table tennis rackets

Read this article to learn about the most preferred professional table tennis rackets from some of the biggest table tennis equipment manufacturers.

Features of table tennis rackets

Professional table tennis rackets are available in component form. What do we mean?  These components are three. The first is the table tennis blade. Next are the forehand rubber and the backhand rubber. These three components make up a table tennis racket. Experts say that the blade is the most important of the three components because it is quite slow to get used to (in some athletes, building the synaptic connections between the brain, arm and blade can take nearly a year!). Once we have settled on a blade that suits our style of play and is comfortable for us, next comes the selection of table tennis rubbers. Since each player’s forehand and backhand are different – and with different pros and cons – very often the two rubbers differ in metrics such as speed, spin and ball control.

Only after we have made our choice for these three components do we now have a professional table tennis racket with which we can embark on our tennis adventure. But let’s also say a few words about each of the 3 components and its specifics.

Rubber

As we’ve explained many times before, the table tennis rubber is generally a sponge that sticks to the blade and top sheet – the part of the rubber that contacts the ball. Rubber sponges can vary in their thickness as well as their density. The role of this part of the rubber is to act as a springboard and accelerate the bounce of the ball off the racket. The top sheet, on the other hand, is the part that is figuratively speaking responsible for giving the ball spin. The top sheets can also vary a lot. The Chinese tradition of table tennis rubber manufacturing is most commonly associated with a highly sticky surface, which relies on this very quality to generate the spin in the ball. Rather, the Japanese and European schools produce a top sheet in which the ball sinks and thus creates the spin in the ball.

Blade

The table tennis blade is the most important element of a professional table tennis racket. Table tennis blades can also be divided by many different signs. The first of these we can point to is the ratio between speed and ball control. The faster a blade is the weaker its control is. And as modern table tennis becomes more and more lightning fast, manufacturers strive to produce faster and faster table tennis blades.

Another metric for differentiating a blade is its composition. Table tennis blade аре composed of different layers and combining them has become an art. Blades can have varying numbers of layers, and in the most general case, the more layers a blade has the faster and more professional it is. Also more than 50 years in the manufacture of table tennis blades are also used artificial materials such as carbon fiber and the like (glass fiber, Kevlar, aramid and other textile materials). The purpose of using these composites is related to the fact that the blade becomes significantly faster without dramatically increasing its weight. Table tennis blades can also be divided by the type of handle. There are a variety of handle types. The standard European handle is the most common worldwide, but it is divided into conical, anatomical and straight. There is also the pen-hold handle, which is mostly used in China and Southeast Asian countries. The last most popular variation is the Japanese Heath, where the backhand side of the blade is not used at all, and only the forehand side is rubber-banded.
